Last updated: 3 November 2026
This notice explains how Closet Collection handles personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). It applies to our website and enquiries sent to us.
On this page: Information collected · Browser storage · Your rights · Complaints
1. Who is responsible for your information?
CLOSET COLLECTION (PTY) LTD
Registration number: 2026/825377/07
22 Kelvin Road, Dreyersdal, Cape Town, Western Cape, 7945, South Africa
Email: closetcollectioncpt@gmail.com
We are the responsible party for the purposes described here. For privacy requests, write to our email or postal address above, marked “Information Officer / Privacy”. Please do not send identity documents, bank statements, passwords or payment-card details by email.
2. Information we collect and why
The public website currently supports browsing only. It does not accept purchases, account registrations, seller documents or newsletter subscriptions.
- Website requests: our hosting service processes technical information such as IP address, requested page, request time, browser information and error records to deliver the website, investigate faults and protect it against abuse. This information comes from your browser and server activity.
- Enquiries: when you contact us, we receive your email address, name if supplied, message and any information you choose to include. We use it to answer you, resolve a concern and retain a record of the correspondence.
- Browser preferences: the site can store privacy and display choices in your browser. See the browser-storage section below.
Sending an enquiry is voluntary. We need a reply address and enough information to address your request; without these we may be unable to respond. Basic technical processing is necessary to serve the website. There is no requirement to provide identity or banking information to browse.
3. Lawful use and your choices
We rely on our legitimate interests in operating a secure website and responding to enquiries, subject to your rights. Where relevant, we also process information to take steps you request before a contract, perform a contract, meet a legal obligation or act on your consent. We do not treat visiting the site as blanket consent to unrelated uses.
You may withdraw consent for a use based on consent, without affecting lawful processing already carried out. You may object on reasonable grounds relating to your circumstances to processing based on legitimate interests, subject to applicable law. We will consider your request and explain any legal reason that prevents us from complying.
4. Cookies, local storage and marketing
No external advertising or analytics provider is connected to this browsing website. Privacy choices and some display preferences may be kept in local or session storage on your device. You can use “Privacy choices” in the footer or clear this website’s data in your browser. Clearing it may reset your preferences.
Restricted staff and QA areas use authentication and session cookies. They are not open customer-registration services. External links, including social media and your email provider, have their own privacy practices.
Newsletter registration is currently closed. Before electronic marketing begins, we will provide an appropriate choice and comply with POPIA’s direct-marketing rules. Marketing messages will identify us and provide a free way to opt out. An enquiry does not automatically subscribe you.
5. Who may receive information?
Access is limited to people who need information for the stated purpose: authorised Closet Collection personnel and service providers supporting hosting, website maintenance, security and email. Our website is hosted using Hostinger infrastructure and our published contact mailbox uses Google’s Gmail service. Professional advisers or public authorities may receive information where necessary and legally justified.
We do not sell personal information. Service providers processing information on our behalf must act under our instructions and appropriate confidentiality and security obligations. We share only the information needed for the relevant task or lawful disclosure.
6. Processing outside South Africa
Hosting, email and support providers may process information outside South Africa. POPIA section 72 requires a permitted basis for such transfers, such as adequate protection under applicable law or a binding agreement that also addresses onward transfers, or another basis allowed by that section. Contact us for information about the providers, processing locations and safeguards relevant to your information.
7. Retention and security
We keep personal information only for as long as needed for its purpose or a lawful retention requirement. Relevant factors include resolving your enquiry, investigating a security incident, meeting a legal duty and establishing or defending a claim. Information that is no longer needed must be securely deleted or de-identified; restricted backup copies are retained through the applicable backup cycle.
Our safeguards include HTTPS, restricted administrative access and access controls for private records. No internet service is risk-free. If a security compromise triggers POPIA’s notification requirements, we will notify the Information Regulator and affected people as required by law, as soon as reasonably possible, subject to lawful delay.
8. Access, corrections, objections and deletion
You can ask whether we hold your personal information, request access, ask us to correct inaccurate information, request deletion where the law permits, object to qualifying processing, or withdraw consent. Please contact us using the details above and describe your request. We may need proportionate proof of identity to protect your information; we will explain a suitable way to provide it.
Confirmation of whether we hold your information is free. Where a prescribed fee or formal access procedure lawfully applies, we will explain it before proceeding. We will assist with the applicable POPIA or Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) process and explain any lawful refusal or retention requirement. A deletion request does not require us to erase records we are legally obliged to keep.
9. Complaints
You may contact us about a privacy concern, or complain directly to South Africa’s Information Regulator without first obtaining our permission. See the Information Regulator’s complaints procedure or email POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za. General enquiries: 010 023 5200. Current contact details are available on the Regulator’s website.
10. Children, automated decisions and future services
Our services are not intended to collect personal information from children under 18 without an appropriate lawful basis and involvement of a competent person where required. If you believe a child has supplied information inappropriately, contact us. The public browsing website does not make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you solely through automated processing.
Before customer accounts, payments or consignment applications open, we will update the notices at the relevant collection points to explain the information required, recipients, purposes, retention and your choices. New purposes will require an appropriate lawful basis. The date above identifies this notice’s latest revision.
